A charity campaigner aiming to improve breast cancer survival rates travelled to Westminster to lobby Parliament.

Dot Head, 67, from Armthorpe, took part in Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s ‘Westminster Fly-In’ and met Doncaster Central MP – and former Health Minister – Rosie.

She asked Rosie to sign the charity’s ‘Bridging the Gap’ charter, which outlines the steps it believes are needed to improve survival rates.

Dot, a retired teacher, said: “It is clear that by following the principles laid out in the Bridging the Gap charter we would give ourselves the best possible chance to improve breast cancer survival rates.

“I’m delighted that Rosie Winterton agreed to sign it.

“The Westminster Fly-In has given me – and dozens of other people from across the country – an incredible opportunity to play a major part in influencing future breast cancer outcomes.”

Almost 48,000 women and 300 men are diagnosed with the disease each year, making it the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK.

Rosie said: “Many people have been affected by this terrible disease, either through a family member’s illness or their own personal fight with breast cancer.

“Breast cancer knows no political, social or demographic boundaries – it has the ability to affect everyone.

“That’s why more needs to be done to bridge the gap in breast cancer survival rates.”
