Shoppers were urged to give small businesses in Doncaster a pizza the action.

Rosie visited an award-winning pizza takeaway shop, Red Tomato on Thorne Road, to mark Small Business Saturday (on December 6).

The campaign encourages people to shop locally and support small businesses in their communities.

Rosie said: "The campaign’s aim is to boost support for smaller businesses, and urge people to look at using community-based, more local retailers.”

Rosie believes small businesses play a key role in job creation in the borough. She is one of several MPs backing a proposal to cut business rates in 2015 and freeze them in 2016, unveiled by Labour leader Ed Miliband last year.

She said: "Small businesses are the driving force behind Doncaster's economy and an integral part of many communities.

"But across the borough they are facing tough times, and that's why Labour would cut business rates for small and medium-sized businesses in 2015 and freeze them in 2016, leading to an average saving of nearly £450."

Red Tomato won the best pizza and pasta takeaway outlet category at the Pizza Pasta and Italian Association Awards last month in a ceremony hosted by celebrity chef Aldo Zilli.
