Parliamentary Reception for Team Margot

Dame Rosie Winterton DBE, MP for Doncaster Central attended the Team Margot Parliamentary Reception to help raise awareness of the Stem Cell Register and encourage people to join.

In 2013 14 month old Margot Martini was diagnosed with blood cancer and required a bone marrow transplant.  In order to have a bone marrow transplant a matching donor is needed, because of Margot’s mixed heritage and ethnicity it was extremely difficult to find a perfect match.

Family and friends came together to raise awareness of Margot’s plight and others desperately seeking a
blood stem cell donor match.  Margot eventually found a suitable donor match and received her bone marrow transplant in February 2014.  Sadly Margot’s Leukaemia was extremely aggressive and she relapsed, passing away aged 2 years and 2 months on the 27th October 2014.

Rosie says “I was happy to be able to show my support for the Team Margot campaign and join with them in encouraging more people to become registered bone marrow/stem cell donors, especially people from ethnic minorities or those with a mixed heritage.”

Margot’s family are continuing their campaign to raise awareness and anyone wishing to register can
