As part of #GiveADaytoPolicing – Dame Rosie Winterton spent the day with the South Yorkshire Police in Doncaster. In the morning Rosie joined the Tasking Team and accompanied them on the execution of a warrant on a cannabis farm in a house in the town centre. This resulted in officers finding 84 cannabis plants growing in a cellar with a further 91 plants found hung drying throughout the address. As a result a 26 year old male was arrested for drug offences and remanded to court.
In the afternoon Rosie joined the town centre response patrol.
Dame Rosie Winterton said “Spending time with the police on the frontline was an incredibly interesting and informative experience. I saw at first hand the bravery, hard work and dedication of our police officers. Their work is crucial to keeping the public safe, whether this be dealing with complex crimes or helping local vulnerable people.
I learnt a lot from discussing with the officers I met about the challenges they face in dealing with crime today.”
