Small Business Saturday (SBS) takes place on the first Saturday in December - a key shopping day in the year in the run-up to Christmas - and is an annual campaign to highlight small business success stories and encourage people to shop locally.

Dame Rosie Winterton visited 'The Lovely Little Giftshop' in the Frenchgate Centre, Doncaster, to show her support for the SBS campaign and said

"Small businesses make a vital contribution to our local enconomy.  Independent retailers, like The Lovely Little Giftshop, provide much needed diversity on the high street and add to the local community, often providing a more tailored personal service.

I think it is important that we celebrate their contribution and I would encourage people in Doncaster to back our local small shops and independent businesses, not just this Saturday but throughout the year."
