At the invitation of Barry Goforth, Chairperson of Local Mencap Doncaster, Dame Rosie Winterton, MP for
Doncaster Central, has agreed to become their Patron.

Doncaster Mencap has been a registered charity for over 45 years and are managed and run entirely by
volunteers, many of whom are family carers.

Rosie has always shown support for people with a learning disability and those who work with and care
for them and following a visit to Mencap Doncaster’s summer fayre earlier this year, they invited her to become their Patron.

Dame Rosie said “I am truly honoured and privileged to become Patron of Doncaster Mencap, a local charity
who do valuable work to provide a variety of services to people from Doncaster with a learning disability, their families, carers and supporters, making a real difference to their lives.

I would encourage anyone who would like to find out more about the services provided, or who may be

Mencap Doncaster provide information and support and promote the abilities and potential of people with
learning disabilities within the wider community and currently run two evening social groups on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, giving members the opportunity to be with their friends in a safe environment, and they hold a monthly Carer’s group giving carers a chance to chat, share news and also listen to guest speakers on
a range of subjects.  They also host regular sporting activities
