Rosie visited the home of a Hexthorpe couple who have benefitted from a multi-million-pound scheme to slash energy bills.

John and Jayne Davis's terraced home, on Mutual Street, has been fitted with insulation which could lower their heating bills by up to 40 per cent.

Rosie praised the work.

She said: “Rising energy prices are a major worry for many people in Doncaster. While these aren't going away, the most sustainable way to cope is by making homes more energy efficient.

“The improvements to the Davis’s home will make an enormous difference to their level of comfort - and crucially the added peace of mind that they can afford to warm all year round.”

Rosie added: “This programme of work will cut costs for hundreds of households while creating jobs in and around Doncaster.”

The scheme is being paid for by energy giant EDF.

About 200 homes in Hexthorpe will have the improvements completed by Christmas. A second phase of 800 homes is due to be started next year.

Hundreds of homes in Dunscroft and Mexborough have already had the work completed.
