Today, Wednesday 5 April 2017, I attended the Doncaster 1914-18 Victoria Cross Trail Launch at Ashworth Barracks, the Victoria Cross Museum at Cedar Road in Balby.
The Doncaster 1914-18 project have worked with the Victoria Cross Trust to produce a trail which explores the lives of the Borough's first six First World War Victoria Cross Recipients, through Doncaster and the Dearne Valley.
it is important that we do remember. The 1914-1918 project to mark the centenary of the First World War looks at how the war affected the lives of people who lived in the Borough, and has been able to capture some of the stories and memories of people in Doncaster who either fought in the war, or were in active service and also on the Home Front.
Volunteers from these organisations, the Mexborough and District Heritage Society, and the Conisbrough and Denaby Main Heritage Group have researched the stories and images for the VC trail.
