28 Nov 2016
Doncaster Parkrun was joined by Dame Rosie Winterton on Saturday 26 November, to unveil the new defibrillator which has been installed in Sandall Park, Wheatley.  On 24th September one of the parkrunners, Michael Wakefield collapsed and subsequently died whilst running a the parkrun.  It is now known that Michael would not have been saved had a defibrilator been available at the time, but it was decided that the Doncater Parkrunners would launch a fundraising campaign to get a Defibrillator for all park users to have access to.

Helped by the Friends of Sandall Park, who provided massive support throughout the process, and support from Doncaster Council, the cabinet has now been installed and the Defibrillator is situated opposite the Sandall Park Cafe and is accessible for use for all park users and member of the public.  Should the Defibrilator ever be needed access is given by the Ambulance Service who will talk the caller through the operation of the device until an ambulance arrives.
