Dame Rosie Winterton DBE, MP for Doncaster Central co-sponsored a reception in Parliament attended by Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, to celebrate the second edition of the Tour de Yorkshire.

Rosie says “It was a real pleasure to be able to showcase Yorkshire in Parliament and to look forward to the Tour de Yorkshire 2016.  I am proud that Doncaster will play host to this fantastic cycling event, welcoming cyclists from around the world.”

Doncaster marks an important milestone as both the finish of the Women’s race and the climax of
Stage Two of the Men’s race will take place here on Saturday 30th April.  The women will race in the
morning and the men in the afternoon on exactly the same route which includes a sprint point at Warmsworth before a lap of, and King/Queen of the Mountain, at 11th century Conisbrough Castle.
The peloton will head towards Tickhill and Bawtry before racing along the perimeter of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, past Doncaster racecourse and onto a sprint finish on South Parade.

Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire says: “It was great to speak to so many Yorkshire MPs about the Tour de Yorkshire and the impact the event will have on the county. The eyes of the world will be on Yorkshire over three days at the end of this month and we are delighted to have
the backing of politicians who are supporting our work in bringing the UK’s biggest free sporting event to Yorkshire.”

Welcome to Yorkshire has teamed up with the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs to produce a brand new Tour de Yorkshire Cuisine guide which highlights foody outlets on the Tour de Yorkshire route. From pubs to farm shops, restaurants to cafes, the guide is available in print and online here www.yorkshire.com/edible
