Shoppers were urged to shop local as part of ‘Small Business Saturday’.

The campaign encourages people to support small businesses in their communities.

Rosie visited hairdresser Margaret’s Salon 245 and said: “Small independent businesses like Margaret’s Salon 245 are the backbone of our high streets – but they need our support.

"The campaign’s aim is to boost support for smaller businesses, and urge people to look at using community-based, more local retailers.”

Rosie believes small businesses play a key role in job creation in the borough. She was one of several MPs to back a proposal to cut business rates earlier this year.

“Small businesses are the driving force behind Doncaster's economy and an integral part of many communities,” added Rosie.

Launched in 2013, Small Business Saturday brought a boost to high streets across the country.

In 2014, 16.5 million Britons visited a local independent store – 2.7m more than on Small Business Saturday in 2013.
