The Doncaster Primary Care Trust is based within Rosie’s constituency and is responsible for healthcare services for around 300,000 patients living in the Doncaster area.
During the year the Trust continued its building modernisation programme by starting work on four new centres at Askern, Edlington, Hatfield and Moorends at a value of £22 million. These new buildings are being erected through the NHS LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust)
initiative. Importantly, these new buildings have become landmarks in the communities they serve, supporting the regeneration of some of Doncaster’s most deprived areas. Service Provision
- In 2007, the Healthcare Commission rated the Trust’s quality of services as ‘good’. Scoring just two more points would have put it into the ‘excellent’ category.Patient Environment
- The Trust undertakes twice-yearly Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) assessments across its four hospitals, to evaluate the quality of the patient environment, food, and privacy and dignity on each site.
Doncaster Royal Infirmary achieved ‘Good’ ratings for food, and privacy and dignity – but narrowly missing out by 1% on a ‘Good’ score for the environment. Cancer Services
– The Trust was placed top in the region for commitment, enthusiasm and services in the latest National Cancer Peer Review (NCPR). The Colorectal Team received a 100% compliance rating under the Peer Review – placing them at the top of the ranks above Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and North Derbyshire.
The Review also acknowledged the benefits of the St John’s Information Centre
where patients and their carers can seek advice and guidance on anything relating to cancer, from finance to support groups. Emergency Services
– A survey of emergency departments at 63 NHS hospital trusts across the UK found Doncaster and Bassetlaw hospitals excelled, achieving either significantly better than average, or average results in all but one question. Positive feedback indicates that patients are very satisfied with staff courtesy, staff availability, timeliness, cleanliness, and facilities.
