Balby village dates back over 400 years with the first known record being in the Domesday Book with recorded names ' Ballesbi'.
Balby has been a centre for steel and brass manufacture, especially at the well known Pegler's Brass Foundry and Bridon Ropery. In the early 20th century, St Catherine's Hospital was built in the south of Balby and is now a hospital estate.
Balby is currently in the process of several redevelopment initiatives such as the construction of a new retail park and the expansion of its residential area in the form of the 'Woodfield Plantation', the latter also prospectively creating a major link road from the east side of Balby to the Doncaster Lakeside and stadium areas although the final link is yet to be completed.
Rosie recently attended a coffee morning with Tarran Bungalows Tenants and Residents' Associtation (TARA) at the Woodfield Community Centre on Weston Road. At the meeting, local residents brought to Rosie's attention a postal and email scam that has been attempting to defraud local residents.
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER as this is a mail scam originating from Belize. If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call. If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 0207 2396655.
