Armthorpe lies on the north-eastern fringe of Doncaster. It was recorded in the Domesday Book, as Ernulfestorp. Coal mining brought a rapid increase in size of the village, with the establishment of its pit, Markham Main, before the colliery's closure in 1992.
Its prime location, close to the M18, and just four miles from Robin Hood international airport, has helped Armthorpe's rebirth and the village has grown hugely over the past five years, with the number of properties built annually in the village rising nearly a hundred fold. This growth has been spurred by the old colliery site which has now been redeveloped for housing.

Rosie's father, Gordon Winterton, was headmaster of Armthorpe School from 1962 to 1968. He was passionate about the school and always believed in its ability to produce talented students.
Rosie attended a prize giving at Armthorpe School to present the “Gordon Winterton Prize” to students who had made an outstanding contribution to the school.
